Our boys team won their first soccer game in their one-year existance of being a team! Beating a Mexican team (who would have ever thought!) in a tournament, they won 3-1. As you can see from the photo above, they were just a little bit excited to have won a game. They really played well, too!
One of the kids on our team who doesn't have a home scored one of the goals... and Mark said his face was unbelievable, like it made his whole month. He lives on the streets and basically wears the same thing everyday, yet he strapped on a uniform and was part of a team... something bigger than himself that gave him a day to just be a kid and play soccer. We are coming to know him pretty well, which has been cool.
At the end of the celebration, Frank Armani (our head coach) decided to finally pass out cleats to the kids who played in the game. We've had about 25 pairs of Adidas cleats that the 80+ kids share each week, but Frank decided to give our best players cleats of their own. If not cleats, then "tennies" as they call them here. So not only did they win a game, but they got some new shoes. Note the "ICC" on the front of their jersey which stands for "Iglesia Comunitara Cristiana"... our church.

Congratulations to you all! Those kids are adorable, and it's wonderful to hear of their joy in the midst of their sometimes difficult lives.
