Air Conditioning Woes

When you think of it today, could you say a quick prayer for us?

After knowing our adorable little Paul for the past seven weeks (TODAY!), there are two sure-fire "tricks" we have to get him to settle down and go to sleep: swaddling and his sling. He likes to be really tight. I recognize that with some babies, no tricks are really needed -- and with others, you would have just been thrilled to have two -- nonetheless...

Knowing that, I just checked Weather Channel for their Santo Domingo weather/forecast, and tonight, at 3am, it is 80 degrees with 92% humidity... so this is the coolest that is gets here this time of year in the Caribbean, and I'm sweating like crazy right now. Putting this equation together, these are not the perfect conditions to use Paul's "tricks", which leaves him very hot, bothered and crying a big chuck of each day... and his mommy feeling "trick-less," wanting to pull her already sweaty hair out, and crying herself some days. He gets overheated easily in this weather.

We haven't had an air conditioning unit for the past two and a half years, but we finally broke down to get a window bedroom unit because Paul has been struggling to fall asleep so much... however last week, once we got it installed, the company realized they put in the wrong unit for our house's power supply... and we haven't heard anything back ever since... no matter how much we call or stop by.

Every afternoon is especially hard, so we've been leaving to sit in the car or go to the mall or the grocery store... but he hates to sit in his car seat, too... so he gets hot and sweaty crying from not wanting to sit in his seat.

So in closing, I realize there are thousands of babies who live in the DR and do not have A/C or swaddle blankets or slings... and they are doing just fine... but this little baby (and his parents) need to either a) find some new tricks b) get the stinkin' air conditioning resolved here today or 3) move into a hotel room for the month of October. :)
